Spring Term 2019

After an exciting Project Launch Day, we have got straight into our ‘Spring Into Wales’ learning! We are currently working on producing stories, poems and artwork for our school Eisteddfod in March. This is a particularly creative term for us so alongwith developing our Literacy and Numeracy skills, you will often find us designing, investigating, collaborating and creating!

After half term, we will also be planning and performing our own Expressive Arts performance based around The Slimy Stuarts! We will be focusing on The Gunpowder Plot, The Plague and The Great Fire of London. We will be including in these performances dance, artwork and drama. This is an opportunity for us to showcase our Year 3 learning to the rest of the school. This term we will be visiting Llancaiach Fawr to time travel back to life in Stuart times. Please ensure that all consent forms are signed and returned to school. Thank you for your support.

Class 10 Information.

We have listed some of our class reminders below but as always, do not hesistate to contact the School Office or a member of staff, should you have any queries or concerns.

Home Learning

Home Learning will be sent out every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday.  Home Learning will consist of a mixture of Spellings, Maths and Project Learning. Please support your child to complete their Home Learning tasks and if at any point, you have any questions, please contact us. We always expect high standards of presentation and handwriting in school so we would be grateful if this could be further reinforced at home. We really appreciate your support with Home Learning tasks. Thank you. smiley

Reading Books

Reading books will be sent home on a Friday. Please could they be brought into school every Wednesday to be checked and changed? We would also appreciate if you could write a short comment in your child’s reading diary. Of course, if the children would like to write in their own diary that would be great too! As a school, we send reading books home that are at a ‘slightly easier’ level than your child is reading in school. We model and teach the explicit reading skills during our Group Guided Reading sessions and throughout the school day. Therefore, we would like you to enjoy quality reading time with your child reinforcing their reading skills and simply talking about the text. Please encourage your child to read a range of texts at home-not just their Home Reading book. Library books, safe internet research, comics, magazines, leaflets, lists etc. will all exercise their reading brains! Please go with your child’s interest.

P.E/ Games

PE- Tuesday

Games (outdoors)- Thurs

We would ask that PE kits are kept in school all week as there may be some flexibility with our timetable. The kits tend not to get too dirty so can be brought home to be washed each holiday or when required. Earrings are not to be worn during our PE/ Games sessions and staff are prohibited from removing them. Please could you teach your child to safely remove their own earrings or better still, not where them to school on PE days. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Additional Key Information:

We encourage the children to bring water and healthy snacks each day.

Please ensure that all cardigans, jumpers, bags and  coats are clearly labelled?

Can we please ask that toys be kept at home? We have had a few occasions where children have brought plastic, electronic and cuddly toys into school. Not only are these toys distracting in a classroom environment but we would not want any toys to be damaged or lost. Thank you for your support with this.

We hope that you have found this initial information useful. Please continue to visit our Class 10 and Twitter page for further updates and photographs of our exciting learning adventures in Year 3.

We are so looking forward to getting to know the children in Class 10 and have a wealth of exciting and challenging learning opportunities planned. If you would like to volunteer and support in our classroom please get in touch. Perhaps you have a specific skill/ area of expertise that would link to our learning, if so, we would very much like to hear from you. We always love to have reading volunteers, even if you cannot commit to regular sessions, we are grateful for any support.

We hope that you have found this information useful.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Miss House and Ms Sims.
