At Gaer Primary School we are committed to ensuring that our children become physically literate and develop a good understanding of the importance of health and well-being.
Since 2015, we have undertaken a number of bespoke ‘physical literacy’ programmes which have had excellent results for both children and parents. The ‘Pedal to the Medal’ and ‘Leaping Through Literacy’ programmes have documented the impact that physical activity can have on raising standards of learning.
In the academic year 2016/17 we have focused on improving the quality of our Physical Develop curriculum and worked with local partners to develop bespoke whole school planning and a fresh attitude to providing high quality teaching of PE.
In Autumn 2017we achieved the Healthy Schools Phase 5 Award. This in tandem with our fresh approach to physical development has been excellent preparation for delivering the ‘Health and Well-being’ strand of the new curriculum. We are now strivingto achieve the National Quality Award (NQA). This award is the highest possible Healthy Schools award.
